My 8-year-old son got this for Christmas and we started playing it together. At first we were thinking it was pretty simple and might turn out to be boring and monotonous. As we progressed we found out that this game has a lot to offer, it just takes a little while to uncover some of the secrets.

The most fun and unique thing about this game is the ability to plan out a dungeon in such a way that a monster will want to live in it, which is the point of the game. We discovered that there actually is a method to this if you want to maximize your monster, and thereby treasure, intake. The monsters start out pretty easy to kill, but they progressively get more difficult. As you go you get more advanced rooms to place in your dungeon. The hardest thing for me was figuring out how to place the massive boss rooms (I didn’t realize they were so large). It’s also not clear how deep your dungeon has to go before the boss will appear.

There are a lot of extras in this game too, including cool spells, a trainable sidekick, and a lot of profitable quests. This is a good game for young and old players. It has enough RPG to keep me interested and enough action to hold my son’s interest.
